Kathy Taylor Duke is a native Georgian, who has lived in the Atlanta area for most of her life. She pursued a BFA in fine art at the University of Georgia, where she received several scholarships and awards. Since she opened her first box of crayons as a child, Ms. Duke has been drawing horses. Her experience as an equestrian and her life-long passion for horses, dogs, and nature is evident in her artwork that captures the unique personality of each subject. In 2004 Kathy Taylor Duke received the Else Tuckerman Memorial Award at the American Academy of Equine Art in Lexington Kentucky for her painting "Officer of the Blues and Royals", a portrait of a WWI British officer and his horse. Ms. Duke’s style ranges from classical and realistic to whimsical and playful. She works in oils, acrylics and inks, but her favorite media is a combination of watercolor and colored pencil. Most of Kathy Taylor Duke’s work can be found as privately commissioned portraits in collections of animal lovers across the country, from Michigan, to Montana. She has also done illustrations, cartooning, and greeting card design.
